The Chapman University Choir is a select group of eighty singers chosen from all departments of the university. The choir has concertized and recorded extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, and are featured in the motion picture and soundtrack of Sister Act II. Choirs from Chapman University have been honored with invitations to perform at numerous national and western-regional conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, most recently at the national convention in Miami, March 7-10, 2007. The University Choir, joined by 300 singers from around the United States and Australia, recently returned from a thrilling performance of the Berlioz Requiem at the Sydney Opera House. Their performance sold out all 2700 seats and earned seven standing ovations. Most recently, the University Choir performed the west coast premier of Howard Shore's epic The Lord of the Rings Symphony with the
Hollywood Bowl Orchestra to the delight of an audience of over 15,000 people.
Il Coro della Chapman University é un gruppo di ottanta cantanti selezionati da tutti i dipartimenti dell’Universitá. Il coro canta in tutta Europa Asia e Stati Uniti; ed ha eseguito numerose registrazioni, anche per films come Sister Act II. I cori della Chapmn University sono stati onorati con inviti a convegni nazionali e regionali (settore ovest) dell’Associazione Americana di Direttori di Coro, e sono stati recentemente invitati al convegno nazionale a Miami, tenutosi in Marzo 7-10, 2007. Il coro dell’Universitá, insieme a 300 cantanti da tutti gli Stati Uniti e Australia, é appena tornato da una incredibile performance del Requiem di Berlioz all’Opera House di Sydney, eseguita con il tutto esaurito e a ripetute ovazioni. Joseph Gerald Modica is the Interim Director of Choral Activities at Chapman University, where he conducts the University Choir, University Singers, teaches conducting and choral methods. He has held adjunct teaching positions at Biola University and Chapman University. Mr. Modica has earned a Bachelor of Music degree in conducting from Chapman University, a Master of Music degree from California State University Long Beach, and is currently studying toward the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Music at the University of Southern California. Mr. Modica is formerly the Director of Choral Activities at Mater Dei High School, and he taught for 5 years at Redlands East Valley High School. His choirs consistently received superior ratings at festivals and competitions and have been heard at two CMEA State Conferences. Mr. Modica is active in many professional organizations such as ACDA, MENC, and SCVA, and enjoys serving as a clinician and adjudicator throughout California. He has studied conducting with William Hall, William Dehning, Jonathan Talberg, Larry Livingston, and Magen Solomon. Mr. Modica is also the principle conductor of the Festival Choir at the Idyllwild Summer Arts Camp, and taught for five years at the Summer Fine Arts Camp at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. His choirs have sung in Italy, Australia, Hawaii, New York, Washington D.C., Florida and the Bahamas.
Joseph Gerald Modica é il Direttore (ad interim) delle Attitivitá Corali a Chapman University, dove conduce il coro dell’Universitá, il gruppo Cantanti dell’Universitá, e insegna conduzione e metodi corali. Il maestro Modica ha un Baccaloreato in Musica dalla Chapman University e un Master in Musica dalla California State University Long Beach, e sta completando il suo Dottarato in Musica Corale alla University of Southern California. Il maestro Modica ha servito come Direttore delle Attivitaá Corali per il liceo Mater Dei, ed ha insegnato per cinque anni al liceo Redland East Valley, ha inoltre previamente insegnato alla Biola University. Hye-Young Kim, a native of South Korea, is active as a collaborative pianist in a wide variety of repertoire and ensembles. Ms. Kim began her career in Collaborative Arts studying with Dr. Alan Smith and Kevin Fitz-Gerald at the University of Southern California. While completing her graduate studies in Keyboard Collaborative Arts at the University of Southern California, Ms. Kim has been the recipient of the distinguished Gwendolyn Koldofsky Memorial Scholarship for four years as well as Thornton Merit Fellowship and Music Dean's Scholarship. She is the winner of ensemble awards from the USC Keyboard Collaborative Arts Honors Convocation for three years. Ms. Kim has worked as a collaborative pianist and vocal coach for the USC Chamber Choir, USC Opera, UCLA Opera, AIMS, Songfest and Pacific Symphony. She has had the privilege to perform in rehearsal and master class situations with renowned artists such
as Placido Domingo, Barbara Bonney, Lynn Harrell, Eroica Trio, William Bolcom, Thomas Adès and Milena Kitic, in addition to working extensively with singers and instrumentalists. Currently Ms. Kim is on the adjunct faculty at Chapman University Conservatory of Music and continuing her doctoral studies at the University of Southern California with Dr. Alan Smith. Ms. Kim has given performances in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Cuba and Austria, as well as the United States.

The College of Performing Arts is the cultural and aesthetic center of Chapman University, bringing together the Conservatory of Music and the Departments of Art, Dance and Theatre. Emphasis is placed on scholarship, creativity, free expression and intellectual curiosity through both curricular offerings and a broad spectrum of cultural events. College of Performing Arts students have the opportunity to be part of special events such as Chapman's American Celebration, a Broadway-style musical revue that serves as the university's largest annual fundraiser. Under the leadership of Dr. William Hall, Dean of the College of Performing Arts, Chapman University has plans for a new performing arts complex on the Orange campus that will serve the needs of our students and the entire community.

The Conservatory of Music is one of the nation's premier music programs and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of music. The music complex of Bertea and Oliphant Halls total more than 44,000 square feet of state-of-the-art facilities that serves 225 majors and 400 university students daily. The Conservatory has a rich tradition in the arts, with many of its graduates performing with major orchestras and opera houses throughout the United States and abroad. The Conservatory of Music is internationally recognized and offers students a conservatory experience within the environment of a liberal arts university. Faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized performers, conductors, composers, and educators. Degree programs offered include the Bachelor of Arts in Music; Bachelor of Music in Composition, Performance, Conducting, and Music Education (pre-certification).

Il complesso di Bertea Hall e Oliphant Hall é un centro di 3,960 metri quadrati con attrazzature all’avanguardia che ospita 225 studenti di Musica e 400 studenti di altre discipline. Il conservatorio ha una ricca tradizione nelle arti, e molti dei suoi laureandi suonano con importanti orchestre e cantano in rinomati teatri lirici negli Stati Uniti e all’estero. Il Conservatorio di Musica é riconosciuto a livello internazionale e da la possibilitá agli studenti di trovarsi in un conservatorio ma nell’ambito educativo di un’universitá. Membri della facoltá sono riconosciuti conduttori, compositori, cantanti e musicisti a livello nazionale ed internazionale. sings High Mass at St. Peter's Basilica
The Chapman University Choir is going to be the featured guest choir singing High Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on May 29, 2008.
The choir directed by Joseph Modica is visiting Milan, Venice, Florence, Siena & San Gimignano, Assisi and Rome on their 2008 Performance Tour to Italy.
