Tough economic times shouldn't stop fine choirs from touring abroad, but at Incantato Tours we understand that flexibility is even more important when traveling money is limited. So while we maintain the high standards our boutique tour company is built upon when it comes to concert management and marketing, as well as the overall touring experience, thinking out of the box and designing creative journeys enabled several wonderful choirs to say YES to going on a 2011 Incantato Performance Tour, and we are honored to work with and for them. Their prime venues include the Stephansdom in Vienna, St. Mark's and St. Peter's Basilica in Italy, private recitals in the Sistine Chapel and many many more wonderful essential artistic experiences.

“Love Songs Human and Divine: Songs for the Spirit”

Presented by the University of South Carolina Concert Choir, of Columbia, South Carolina, USA. The choir is under the direction of Dr. Larry Wyatt and accompanied by Dr. Williams Bates.

The University of South Carolina Concert Choir will perform throughout Italy and the Vatican State from March 3 through March 14, 2011. The tour will be in Tuscany from March 4 through 7, Calvi dell’Umbria on March 8 and 9, and Rome from March 10 through 14.

“Viva la Musica: Sacred choral music and jazz celebrating life, love, faith, and music”

Presented by the Bellarmine University Music Department, of Louisville, Kentucky, USA. The Schola Cantorum, in collaboration with the Louisville Vocal Project, will present a concert of sacred and secular masterpieces from the past and present, featuring music by Parsons, Byrd, Stanford, and Burchard. The Jazz Ensemble will present a concert of well-known American jazz standards featuring the music of Ellington, Mancini, Rodgers & Hart, Young, and Garner. The choirs are directed by Dr. S. Timothy Glasscock, and the Jazz ensemble is led by Mr. David Clark. Mr. Richard Burchard serves as the head of the Bellarmine University Music Department.

The ensembles will perform throughout Italy and the Vatican State from March 4 through 14, 2011. The tour will be in the Amalfi Coast region March 5 through 7, Montecassino on March 8, Tuscany from March 8 through 10, Assisi on March 11, and Rome on March 12 and 13.

“Songs of Hope, Peace, and Praise: from the master of the Italian motet to the master of the American spiritual”

Presented by the Mater Dei High School Chorus, of Santa Ana, California, USA. The 150-voice choir is under the direction of Mr. Scott Melvin and accompanied by Mr. Kent Helwig.

The Chorus will perform throughout Italy and the Vatican State from March 25 through April 3, 2011. The tour will be in the Amalfi Coast region from March 25 through 28, Montecassino on March 29, Rome for the Papal Audience on March 30, Umbria on March 31, and back to Rome from April 1 through 3.

“A Journey of Light: A concert of choral music that will awaken the sense, inspire the soul, and warm the heart”

Presented by the La Canada High School Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, of La Canada, California, USA. The La Canada High School Concert Choir and Chamber Singers are under the direction of Mr. Jeff Brookey. The program will feature works by American and European composers spanning five centuries, including Claudio Monteverdi, Franz Schubert, Maurice Durufle, Eric Whitacre, and Moses Hogan.

The ensembles will perform throughout Italy and the Vatican State from March 30 through April 7, 2011. The tour will be in Mestre on March 31, Venice on April 1, Tuscany on April 2 and 3, Orvieto on April 4, and Rome from April 5 through 7.

Save the date for the following performances: St. Mark's Basilica, Venice, on April 1, 6:45 pm; Il Teatro, Rieti, on April 4; St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, on April 5, at 5 pm; Sant' Agnese in Agone, Rome, April 6, 6:00 pm.

“I Saw Eternity: A spiritual pilgrimage through music of past and present”

Performed by the JSerra Catholic High School Chamber Choir, of San Juan Capistrano, California, USA. The JSerra Chamber Choir, featuring works by Bieble, Byrd, and Poulanc, is under the direction of Mr. Andrew M. Alvarez, and accompanied by Ms. Catherine Forbush.

The Chamber Choir will perform throughout Italy and the Vatican State, April 1 through 11, 2011. The tour will be in Florence on April 2 and 3, Tuscany on April 4, Assisi and Calvi on April 5, and Rome from April 6 through 10.

“Contemplation and Exultation: Sacred music along the Danube”

Presented by the Youth Performing Arts School Touring Concert Choir, of Louisville, Kentucky, USA. The program features traditional and contemporary choral literature by an eclectic mix of composers, including Palestrina, Byrd, Marenzio, Burchard, and Mozart. The choir is directed by Dr. S. Timothy Glasscock, Director of Vocal Studies, and accompanied by Mr. Timothy Lee Baker, Organist.

The Choir will travel on a performance cruise on the Danube River through Central Europe from April 2 through April 11, 2011. The cruise will dock in Budapest on April 4, Bratislava on April 5, Vienna on April 6, Dürnstein and Melk on April 7, Linz and Cesky Krumlov on April 8, Passau and Vilshofen on April 9, and Prague on April 10.

Save the date for the following YPAS performances: Thursday, April 7, 11 am at Dürnstein Monastery; Saturday, April 9, 7 pm at Schweiklberg Abbey.

“A Collision of the Ancient and New World: a collection of Romantic and Contemporary choral gems of 19^th and 20^th centuries”

Presented by the San Marino Chamber Choir, from San Marino High School in Los Angeles, California, USA. The program features selected works by Claudio Monteverdi, J.S. Bach, Henry Purcell, Hugo Wolf, Morten Lauridsen, Moses Hogan, and many others. The Chamber Choir is under the direction of Mr. Howard Cheung and accompanied by Ms. Rachel Yang.

The choir will perform throughout Italy and the Vatican State from April 2 through April 12, 2011. The tour will be in the Castelli Romani region on April 3, the Amalfi Coast region from April 4 through 6, Montecassino on April 7, Umbria on April 8, and Rome from April 9 through 12.

“La Storia: Sharing stories through song, from one land to another – a concert of choral and instrumental music”

Presented by the St. Bonaventure’s College Wind Ensemble & Chamber Choir, of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. The ensembles are conducted by Ms. Vincenza Etchegary, Instrumental Director, and Ms. Maria Conkey, Choral Director.

The St. Bonaventure’s College Wind Ensemble and Chamber Choir will tour Italy and the Vatican State from April 9 through April 17, 2011. The tour will be in Rome April 10 through April 12, the Amalfi Coast from April 13 through 15, and will conclude in Montecassino and the Castelli Romani region on April 16.

“¡Cantemos!”

Presented by the University of Miami Frost Chorale, of Miami, Florida, USA, features choral masterworks paired with Spanish and American folk music. The Frost Chorale is under the direction of Dr. Josh Habermann.

The Frost Chorale will travel to Spain, May 15 through 23, 2011. The tour will be in Barcelona on May 16 and 17, Valencia on May 18 and 19, Cuenca on May 20, Toledo on May 21, and Madrid on May 22.

“Songs from the heart to the heavens: Sacred and secular choral gems from the continental Europe, Great Britain, Africa, Australia, and the Americas”

Presented by the University of Georgia Chamber Choir, of Athens, Georgia, USA. The program ranges from works by Victoria and Brahms to jazz and spirituals. The choir is directed by Dr. Mitos Andaya and accompanied by Dr. Martha Thomas.

The choir travel on a performance tour of Portugal and Spain from May 19 through 29, 2011. The tour will be in Lisbon on May 20 and 21, Azambuja on May 22, Evora and Alentejo on May 23, Sevilla on May 24 and 25, Toledo on May 26 and 27.

“Passion and Faith: Sacred and secular music to touch the heart and feed the soul”

Presented by the Providence College Choir and Symphonic Winds, of Providence, Rhode Island, USA. The Choir is under the direction of Dr. T.J. Harper and Accompanied by Ms. Sherry Humes Dane. The Symphonic Winds are led by Dr. Jennifer Bill.

The ensembles will be touring Italy and the Vatican State, May 16 through 26, 2011. The tour will be in Montecassino May 17 and 18, Naples on May 19, Amalfi and Maiori on May 20, Rome May 21, 22, and 25, and Tuscany May 23 and 24.

About the Choir

The Choir of the Sound (COTS) S is a leading community choir in the Puget Sound area, presenting concerts of demanding literature in an innovative and entertaining style. The choir has been recognized through the years for its impressive performances of major choral works. COTS was founded in 1977 by Robert Metzger as the Shoreline Community College Chorale, and assumed its present name in 1980. The Choir’s mission is to provide an outlet for musical expression and artistic performances that are educational, stimulating, and enriching to the cultural life of the community. Tours of Europe in 1983 and 1995 featured performances in Austria, the Czech Republic, and Germany. In November 2005, under the direction of Judy Filibeck, the COTS singers joined four other choirs and two New York City soloists in a performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria at Carnegie Hall.

About the Director

Judy Filibeck has been the Musical Director of the Choir of the Sound since 2004. She has recently retired as Director of Choral Music at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Washington, where she conducted five different award-winning choirs. Judy Filibeck graduated from Bemidji State University in Minnesota, and has a Master's degree from the University of Washington and continued to study at the University of Oregon also. She taught for ten years at Seattle Community College and was co-owner of a company that taught goal-setting and self-esteem building techniques across the United States. She has also conducted both church and community choirs and adjudicated many festivals and competitions in the Pacific Northwest.

About the Choir

The SCC Touring Choir with 50+ singers ranging in age from 14 to 17 and directed by Mrs. Arlene Jacobs represents the most advanced singers from the Summit Children’s Choir Program based in Akron, Ohio (USA). This quality vocal music education program for children of all ages was established in 1991 based on the Kodaly philosophy of attaining musical literacy combined with the teaching of sound vocal technique. The members of the SCC Touring Choir have grown steadily into an artistic unit which is recognized throughout Ohio and beyond. In recent years they have been involved in performances of such large scale works as Bach's Christmas Oratorio and Mendelssohn's Elijah. The singers have appeared as part of international music festivals in England, Hawaii, China and Italy and most recently collaborated with the China Children’s Choir, the Hawaii Youth Chorus and two other American ensembles in an international children’s choir festival in China which included a series of concerts in Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai. This June, they are going to experience their first independent concert tour outside of the U.S. giving concerts in Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic.

About the Director

Mrs. Arlene Jacobs holds Bachelor and Masters degrees in Music Education from DePauw University (Greencastle, Indiana). She has taught public school music in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and California and is in her seventeenth year teaching vocal music at Arrowhead Primary School in the Copley/ Fairlawn School District. She is known as one of the most successful school music educators in Northeast Ohio and remains as an active member of OMEA (the Ohio Music Education Association), American Kodaly Educators, American Orff-Schulwerk Association, and the American Choral Director's Association. In recent years, Mrs. Jacobs has appeared as a guest clinician for children's choir festivals and clinics around the state of Ohio, and is in her thirteenth season as director of the Touring Choir of the Summit Children's Choir Program.

Standing ovations for the Junge Chor Speyer's first US concert in NYC

They could not have had a better opening concert for their 2008 USA Performance Tour. The 23 singers of the "Junge Chor Speyer" directed by Marie Theres Brand performed to a full house in New York City on March 26, 2008 in beautiful St. Matthias R.C. church. The program of sacred and secular works titled "Mozart & Friends" received several minute-long applauses and the choir was rewarded with standing ovations from almost everyone attending when the concert concluded. Especially the selection of German folk songs were true crowd pleaser: "Kein schoener Land" was requested as an encore and became particularly moving when many of the German-speaking guests sang along during that repeat performance. Mozart's "Sancta Maria" - accompanied by the string-quartet traveling with the choir - was also performed twice.

Between 400 and 500 people from all over the Big Apple attended their very first concert on US soil, some even came all the way from New Jersey and Connecticut as the performance hosted by St. Matthias and co-organized by Incantato Tours & Concert Management had been advertised all over the Tri-State area and highlighted as a special event in the media and various official information outlets like the German consulate's website. Director Marie Theres Brand and her singers were very moved by the warm reception and positive feedback they received from the audience and also their hosts.

Msgr. Ed Scharfenberger of St. Matthias who had spontaneously welcomed the choir from Speyer into his parish when approached only a few months ago commented on the event in an email shortly after the concert: "The Junger Chor was a true and timely gift to our community. You could see the expression on the faces of the people who attended – how happy they were. I heard so many people comment about how uplifting it was to see and hear so many young people come together to make such beautiful music. But it was even more than the music. It was the sense of HOPE that their presence gave to the people who are not always given an opportunity to see the results of good leadership, youthful goodness and enthusiasm and – let’s face it, love and discipline – all come together. The many connections that were made will only deepen the impression made. This was a wonderful event that will always be a treasured memory of our parish."

The choir continues to Ohio and Illinois were additional formal and informal concerts are scheduled. They return to Germany on April 3, 2008.

Junger Chor Speyer performs in New York City

The German Youth Choir "Junger Chor Speyer" presents the first formal concert of its 11-day Performance Tour to the USA tonight at St. Matthias R.C. Church in Ridgewood, NY on March 26, 2008.

Starting at 7:30 pm, the 23 singers present a selection of sacred works and international folksongs. "Mozart & Friends" is the title of their performance which is part of the centennial celebration at the Queens parish founded 100 years ago.

Junger Chor Speyer coming to the US in March

The German Youth Choir "Junger Chor Speyer" is counting the days until their very first North-American Performance Tour. The ensemble from Speyer is going to land in New York City on March 24.

The "Big Apple" is the starting point for an 11-day tour leading them via New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio to Illinois. The choir directed by Marie Theres Brand is flying out of Chicago on April 3.

- The SCHS Choirs tour Ireland in April

The San Clemente High School Choirs from California, USA are heading to Ireland in April for their second international Performance Tour.

Director Dr. Philemon Theodorou - who is also the founder of the SCHS Triton Vocal Arts Department at the Southern California High School - is bringing 40 singers from his three choral ensembles on this exciting journey organized by Incantato Tours & Concert Management. The choirs present an all a cappella touring program titled "Sacred Sounds - Sacred Spaces" (in Gaelic "Fuaimeanna Noafa - Spasanna Noafa") featuring sacred works from Brahms, Palestrina, Busto, Aguiar, Gathrow and other European as well as American composers.

The singers between the ages of 14 and 18 are going to perform in prime venues in Dublin, Waterford and Killarney.

On their upcoming Performance Tour to Ireland this April, the San Clemente High School Choirs present an all a cappella touring program titled "Sacred Sounds - Sacred Spaces" (in Gaelic "Fuaimeanna Noafa - Spasanna Noafa") featuring sacred works from Brahms, Palestrina, Busto, Aguiar, Gathrow and other European as well as American composers.

2008 International Performance Tour leads to beautiful Italy

The Chamber Singers of California State University San Bernadino is a select small ensemble directed by Dr. Andrew Crane. Consisting of around 30 voices, this group focuses on advanced, primarily unaccompanied repertoire specifically suited for chamber choir. The Chamber Singers frequently make performance tours throughout the US. In June 2008, they embark on an international performance tour to various cities in Italy organized by Incantato Tours & Concert Management.

From June 18 to June 28, the choir is traveling through Tuscany, Rome and along the Amalfi Coast where the talented singers will present several concerts and are going to be the featured guest choir in major basilicas. Their performance tour culminates into the Incantato "Carmina Burana Festival" with a highlight concert on June 27 in Maiori. Together with the Chamber and University Choirs of California State University Long Beach and the Carolina International Chorale, the festival choir presents Carl Orff's masterwork under the direction of Dr. Jonathan Talberg.

Andrew Crane, conductor of CSUSB, and in his third year as director of choral and vocal activities at Cal State San Bernardino is an acclaimed tenor soloist and as is going to sing that part in Carmina. CSUSB accompanist Joshua Tuburan is one of the two festival pianists.

Canticum Novum (New Song) The Touring Chamber Ensemble of the Sanctuary Choir, at Central United Methodist Church, is directed by Donald E. Morse, Minister of Worship and The Arts, and has concertized throughout Europe, Greece, the Americas, the Caribbean and the South Pacific. It has sung at the invitations of the Archbishops of Milan, Salzburg, Florence, Siena, Perugia, Sorrento, Athens, Prague, Hradec Kralove, and Venice, presenting concerts in each of those cathedrals, and has performed in the great basilicas across Europe. Canticum Novum was honored to have been sponsored by the Pontificio Instituto di Musica Sacra and Amici Della Musica Sacra in Italy presenting a series of concerts in Rome, including the Mass of the Angels at the Basilica Church of St. Peter at Vatican City and a private concert in the Sistine Chapel. The Sanctuary Choir was pleased to have been selected as one of four American church choirs to participate in the first Salzburg Church Music Festival to highlight American Sacred Music in the summer of 1987. They are well known for their versatility in performing literature from many periods, particularly music of the twentieth century. In addition to providing music for the regular worship services of Central Church and its television programs, they present choral works with chamber orchestra, and community concerts each year. They have performed on numerous occasions with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and for festivals and both regional and national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the Music Educator’s National Conference (MENC), The American Guild of Organists (AGO), and United Methodist denominational gatherings. The choir, while espousing professional standards, is comprised of volunteers from many professions whose common interest is serious music making in their sacred setting.

US-Universitätschor „Schola Cantorum“ konzertiert am Sonntag in Stift Göttweig

„Awake, my soul and sing!“ ist Titel und roter Faden eines ganz besonderen Gastkonzertes in der Göttweiger Stiftskirche am Sonntagnachmittag. Dargeboten werden Chorkompositionen über das Leben und die Liebe, über Freud‘ und Schmerz , und den unbezähmbaren menschlichen Geist. Der Eintritt zum Konzert ist frei.

Auch 2008 ist wieder ein amerikanischer Chor zu Gast bei den Benediktiner Klosterherren und das nicht nur fürs Konzert. Die 44 Sängerinnen und Sänger aus Fayetteville im US-Bundesstaat Arkansas, die vom 19. bis 29. Mai auf Europetournee in Tschechien, Österreich und Ungarn sind, wohnen auch im Jugendhaus: „So können wir Österreich noch besser erfahren“, erklärt Chorleiter Dr. Graeme Langager die bewusste Entscheidung auf den Komfort der Hotelunterkunft für zwei Nächte zu verzichten. Auch die Studenten waren von der Idee begeistert: „Das ist einfach mal etwas anderes, ein besonderes Erlebnis“. Die Schönheit der Anlage, aber auch die besondere Atmosphäre des Stifts wollen sie auf sich wirken lassen: „Solch Inspiration beflügelt sowohl die Sänger als auch mich als Komponisten“, weiß Langager aus Erfahrung. Eine Reise nach Irland war maßgeblicher Einfluß für eines seiner erfolgreichsten Werke mit dem Titel „Irish Blessing“, das auch am Sonntag zu hören sein wird.

Die besondere Gastfreundschaft der Klosterherren und nicht zuletzt die gute Küche und der lokale Wein waren weitere Anreize - vor allem aber die besondere Publikumsresonanz, die in den vergangenen Jahren auch schon die anderen amerikanischen Chöre bei ihren Auftritten im Stift erfahren durften. „Die Musikbegeisterung der Niederösterreicher hat sich schon in amerikanischen Chorkreisen herumgesprochen“, bestätigt Konzertorganisatorin Sandra Weinacht von Incantato Tours & Concert Management in New York, die auch selbst zum Schola-Konzert anreist: „Dieses Ereignis lass ich mir nicht entgehen.“

Um 15.30 Uhr beginnt am Sonntag, 25. Mai, das Konzert. Auf dem abwechslungsreichen Programm stehen klassische Werke amerikanischer und europäischer Komponisten von Bach bis Purcell, dazu amerikanische Gospel und Spirituals. Gerne würden die Musiker im Alter zwischen 18 und 25 nach ihrem Auftritt noch ins Gespräch mit den Konzertgästen kommen. Einige von Ihnen haben dazu extra noch Deutsch gelernt.

Insgesamt fünf Konzerte geben die Musikstudenten während der zehntägigen Tournee. Weitere Auftrittsorte sind Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Wien, wo der Chor im Stephansdom am Montag, 26. Mai auch die Mittagsmesse gestaltet, und Budapest.

SCHOLA CANTORUM

The University of Arkansas Schola Cantorum has been led by only three directors in its illustrious forty-five year history. The ensemble was founded in 1957 by Professor of Music Richard Brothers who guided the choir through its first nineteen years. Under his leadership, Schola Cantorum gained its first critical acclaim when in 1962 it became the first American choir to win the coveted gold medal - the Guido d'Arezzo Award - at the prestigious International Polyphonic Competition in Arezzo, Italy. Upon returning to the United States, Schola Cantorum appeared on the Today Show and was invited to sing for President Kennedy in the Rose Garden in honor of its achievement.

Jack Groh, the choir's second conductor, led the Schola Cantorum with inspired direction for 20 years. During his tenure, the choir's reputation continued to grow as Schola sang for inaugurations of Governors and other heads of state, as well as making numerous appearances at state and regional conventions of the Music Educators National Conference and the American Choral Directors Association. Jack Groh is currently Schola Cantorum's interim director.

David Saladino, Schola Cantorum's third conductor, brought a wealth of vocal experience and conducting expertise to the premiere choral ensemble at the University of Arkansas. Professor Saladino's doctorate is from The Florida State University School of Music. Innovations in choral curricula during his ten years' experience teaching in public schools have produced exceptional performing ensembles without sacrificing the development of music and vocal skills vital to the whole student. David Saladino's choirs have performed for state, regional and national conventions of ACDA and MENC.

Dr. Graeme Langager

A native of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, Graeme Langager is currently Director of Choral Activities at the University of Arkansas. Mr. Langager joined the faculty of the Music Department in 2003 after completing Doctoral coursework at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Earl Rivers and Stephen Coker.

Mr. Langager moved to the United States from Canada to do graduate work at California State University, Long Beach with Lynn Bielefelt. After receiving his Masters of Music in Choral Conducting, Mr. Langager was appointed Director of Choral Activities at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, CA, where his ensembles were regularly invited to perform at festivals and conventions nationally and internationally. While in California, Mr. Langager served on the board of the California ACDA and was sought after as an adjudicator and clinician.

Mr. Langager has taught in Canada, California, North Carolina, Ohio, and Arkansas in High School, Community College, and University settings. He also has been Director of Music in Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian, and Methodist churches. Mr. Langager is known as a creative, inspiring and passionate educator who strives for excellence from himself and his students. His commissions, compositions and arrangements have been performed and recorded by some of the finest ensembles in North America.

The Chapman University Choir is a select group of eighty singers chosen from all departments of the university. The choir has concertized and recorded extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, and are featured in the motion picture and soundtrack of Sister Act II. Choirs from Chapman University have been honored with invitations to perform at numerous national and western-regional conventions of the American Choral Directors Association, most recently at the national convention in Miami, March 7-10, 2007. The University Choir, joined by 300 singers from around the United States and Australia, recently returned from a thrilling performance of the Berlioz Requiem at the Sydney Opera House. Their performance sold out all 2700 seats and earned seven standing ovations. Most recently, the University Choir performed the west coast premier of Howard Shore's epic The Lord of the Rings Symphony with the
Hollywood Bowl Orchestra to the delight of an audience of over 15,000 people.

Joseph Gerald Modica is the Interim Director of Choral Activities at Chapman University, where he conducts the University Choir, University Singers, teaches conducting and choral methods. He has held adjunct teaching positions at Biola University and Chapman University. Mr. Modica has earned a Bachelor of Music degree in conducting from Chapman University, a Master of Music degree from California State University Long Beach, and is currently studying toward the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Music at the University of Southern California. Mr. Modica is formerly the Director of Choral Activities at Mater Dei High School, and he taught for 5 years at Redlands East Valley High School. His choirs consistently received superior ratings at festivals and competitions and have been heard at two CMEA State Conferences. Mr. Modica is active in many professional organizations such as ACDA, MENC, and SCVA, and enjoys serving as a clinician and adjudicator throughout California. He has studied conducting with William Hall, William Dehning, Jonathan Talberg, Larry Livingston, and Magen Solomon. Mr. Modica is also the principle conductor of the Festival Choir at the Idyllwild Summer Arts Camp, and taught for five years at the Summer Fine Arts Camp at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. His choirs have sung in Italy, Australia, Hawaii, New York, Washington D.C., Florida and the Bahamas.

Hye-Young Kim, a native of South Korea, is active as a collaborative pianist in a wide variety of repertoire and ensembles. Ms. Kim began her career in Collaborative Arts studying with Dr. Alan Smith and Kevin Fitz-Gerald at the University of Southern California. While completing her graduate studies in Keyboard Collaborative Arts at the University of Southern California, Ms. Kim has been the recipient of the distinguished Gwendolyn Koldofsky Memorial Scholarship for four years as well as Thornton Merit Fellowship and Music Dean's Scholarship. She is the winner of ensemble awards from the USC Keyboard Collaborative Arts Honors Convocation for three years. Ms. Kim has worked as a collaborative pianist and vocal coach for the USC Chamber Choir, USC Opera, UCLA Opera, AIMS, Songfest and Pacific Symphony. She has had the privilege to perform in rehearsal and master class situations with renowned artists such
as Placido Domingo, Barbara Bonney, Lynn Harrell, Eroica Trio, William Bolcom, Thomas Adès and Milena Kitic, in addition to working extensively with singers and instrumentalists. Currently Ms. Kim is on the adjunct faculty at Chapman University Conservatory of Music and continuing her doctoral studies at the University of Southern California with Dr. Alan Smith. Ms. Kim has given performances in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Cuba and Austria, as well as the United States.

The Conservatory of Music is one of the nation's premier music programs and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of music. The music complex of Bertea and Oliphant Halls total more than 44,000 square feet of state-of-the-art facilities that serves 225 majors and 400 university students daily. The Conservatory has a rich tradition in the arts, with many of its graduates performing with major orchestras and opera houses throughout the United States and abroad. The Conservatory of Music is internationally recognized and offers students a conservatory experience within the environment of a liberal arts university. Faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized performers, conductors, composers, and educators. The Chapman University Choir is going to be the featured guest choir singing High Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on May 29, 2008.

The choir directed by Joseph Modica is visiting Milan, Venice, Florence, Siena & San Gimignano, Assisi and Rome on their 2008 Performance Tour to Italy.

The 2009 INCANTATO PERFORMANCE TOUR
TO SPAIN & PORTUGAL FOR THE YPAS TOURING CHOIR

On their 2009 Incantato Performance Tour to Spain and Portugal, the YPAS singers present two very special formal concerts, sing in three masses at stunningly beautiful and last but not least famous cathedrals, and you will also have some informal singing opportunities.

The "informal singing opportunities" means that they have given you permission to sing a few pieces from your repertoire. While it would be nice just to walk into those amazing venues and just sing, the reality is that even for an informal concert, permission has to be asked and granted. We encourage our groups to take advantage of every opportunity while abroad. This may sound like a lot of work for the singers on your trip, but as a singer each event will bring you closer and will truly open your heart to the music and history! Each time you sing your repertoire it will change and tell you something new, especially dependent on your new environment and acoustics!

The first performance will be a recital in Segovia at San Juan de los Caballeros Church at 7 pm. on Saturday, March 28, 2009 followed by a welcome dinner. The next day, the YPAS Touring Concert Choir will present another recital at the beautiful León Cathedral at 12:30 pm. Sunday, March 29, is also they day for the first of two highlight concerts - in the Chamber Music Hall of the Auditorio Principe Felipe of Oviedo. The YPAS Choir will be joined with singers from the Youth Choir of the Prince of Asturias Foundation.

Tuesday, March 31st: Evening Mass in the Santiago Cathedral.
This was the place, Dr. Glasscock really wanted to sing in, and YPAS is going to be the featured guest choir for the evening High Mass on March 31, 2009. Now a little something about this amazing venue: The Santiago Cathedral in located in Galicia, Spain. This cathedral is reported to be the burial site of Saint James, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ. During 1070 while Alfonso VI of Castile was in power this great cathedral sprang into life. Due to the lapses in construction the cathedral wasn’t completed until 1122. Although during the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries many expansions and embellishments were made.

Thursday, April 2nd: Morning Mass in the Lisbon Cathedral. The Lisbon Cathedral is the oldest church in the city. Contruction begain in 1147 and hosted as a Mosque. When the city was captured early in the 12th century by Christian crusaders (led by Portugal's first kind, Afonso Henriques), the structure was rebuilt and it became the first church in Lisbon. It has suffered through several earthquakes and has gone through renovations, so now it displays many different architectural styles within its walls. Click here for more information and pictures.

And last not least, on April 3 at 6 pm, YPAS will be the featured guest choir for a very special High Mass at the Catedral La Almudena in Madrid

The Almudena Cathedral serves as one of Madrid’s fabulous and affordable tourist sites. Saint Maria de la Almudena was the one of Madrid patron saints and the source of the cathedral’s name. The cathedral has a strong and passionate history, starting around the late 18th century. Although the cathedral had an early beginning it wasn’t completed until 1993. Unlike many other cathedrals in Madrid or Toledo (Spain’s former capital) the Almudena Cathedral is famous for its modern beauty and grand size. The Cathedral is 104m long and 76m wide (113 yards long and 83 yards wide)!

ABOUT THE CHOIR AND DIRECTOR DR. TIMOTHY GLASSCOCK

Dr. S. Timothy Glasscock is finishing his eighth year at The Youth Performing Arts School, where he functions as the Director of Vocal Studies and teaches Vocal Development, Repertory Choir, DuPont Manual Chorus, Concert Choir, and Chamber Choir. He also serves a Production Director to the musical productions. As Artistic Director of The Louisville Chorus, the Southeast United States’ longest-thriving choral arts agency, he is a well-known figure in artistic circles in The U.S. With a Bachelors and Masters degree in music from The University of Louisville and a Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Kentucky, his experience is wide and varied. Dr. Glasscock is in demand nationally and internationally for conducting and guest solo performances. His biography can be found on the World Concert Artist Directory, and he is a member of the Conductor’s Guild, American Choral Director’s Association, Kentucky Music Educator’s National Conference, Chorus America, The College Music Society, National Pastoral Musicians, and various other professional organizations.

The Youth Performing Arts School Touring Concert Choir consists of vocal majors and other singers admitted by audition only. This ensemble covers a wide variety of music from all periods of musical history. Renaissance motets, baroque cantatas, classical masses, romantic and 20th century choral/orchestral masterworks—all these genres and more comprise the core repertoire of the touring ensemble at YPAS.

This choir has performed at the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, France, at St. James Episcopal (first musical position held by Leopold Stokowsy) in London, Rochester Cathedral, Cathedral of Saint Mark’s in Venice, Italy, Chiesa Santa Maria Maggiore, and Sancta Susanna, the American parish in Rome, Italy, The Haydnsaal at Esterhaze, Mirabell Gardens, and various other prestigious venues throughout Europe. The choir has sung for presidential inaugurations, television commercials, sung back-up for touring world-famous performers, and made commercial CD recordings alone and with professional arts organizations. Each Spring, the Concert Choir performs a major work in cooperation with The Louisville Chorus. These collaborations have included the Durufle, Mozart, and Brahms requiems, Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, and Serenade to Music, and will be performing Haydn’s Creation in April.

Nearly 80% of YPAS vocal graduates go on to pursue a career in the arts, and each year 90% of those attending college go on to major music departments across the country with full or near-full performance scholarships. The Youth Performing Arts School ensembles have consistently received distinguished ratings and can be found performing throughout the Louisville-metro area all year long

The Youth Performing Arts School (YPAS) founded in 1977, is a part of the Jefferson County Public School District and serves students in grades nine through twelve. As a magnet school under DuPont Manual High School, YPAS has diverse student population from throughout Jefferson County exhibiting talent and interest in dance, drama, technical theatre, vocal music, instrumental music, and piano. Further classes are offered in musical theatre, music theory, and jazz improvisation. At the heart of the YPAS facility is an 886-seat formal proscenium theatre with excellent acoustics and state-of-the-art production equipment. In addition, a 200-seat experimental theatre provides a more intimate setting for chamber presentations, dramatic works, and non-traditional productions. Facilities include a suite of ensemble practice rooms, dance studios, a costume shop, a scene shop, drama studios and other enhancements exceeding those found in many college settings. A computer lab and a fine arts library round out the resource-rich environment available to students of this school. YPAS has enriched the cultural and educational environment of Louisville and the Commonwealth with graduates earning scholarships to universities and conservatories throughout the nation.

AMOR ETERNO IS THE CONCERT TOUR THEME BASED ON A SPECIAL COMPOSITION BY RICHARD BURCHARD

Composer Richard Burchard is a dear friend of the Youth Performing Arts School Touring Concert Choir and Director Dr. S. Timothy Glasscock. "They've performed and/or premiered many of my choral works so I am having developed a great relationship with them", Burchard explains. For the 2009 Incantato Performance Tour to Spain and Portugal, he composed a new work: A Song of Eternal Love. "I wanted this work to be something special which is also why I chose to write the text myself. I think the words resonate with everyone allowing each singer and listener to experience them in their own way. The piece was translated into Spanish by my colleague and friend, David Domine."

A Song of Eternal Love with have its European premiere on March 29, 2009 in the Chamber Music Hall of the Oficina Municipal de Congresos of Oviedo as the YPAS Choir will be joined with singers from the Youth Choir of the Prince of Asturias Foundation.

About the composer:
Richard Burchard is Associate Professor and Music Department Chair at Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY. He teaches Composition and Arranging, Music Technology, Music Theory
and World Music. Burchard also teaches in the KIIS Program (Kentucky Institute for International Studies) in Salzburg, Austria.

Burchard's music consists primarily of choral works including over thirty commissioned pieces. His compositions have been performed throughout the United States and Europe having had world premieres in Salzburg, Austria and Rome, Italy. In 2006 Burchard released his first CD of original choral music, New Music for Choir, featuring ten new compositions. In addition to choral music, Burchard composes experimental and ambient electronic music specifically for modern dance companies and Internet media companies and was named the Kentucky Music Teachers Association Commissioned Composer for 2008.

Tough economic times shouldn't stop fine choirs from touring abroad, but at Incantato Tours we understand that flexibility is even more important when traveling money is limited. So while we maintain the high standards our boutique tour company is built upon when it comes to concert management and marketing, as well as the overall touring experience, thinking out of the box and designing creative journeys enabled many wonderful choirs to say YES to going on a 2011 Incantato Performance Tour, and we were honored to work with and for them. Their prime venues included the Stephansdom in Vienna, St. Mark's and St. Peter's Basilica in Italy, private recitals in the Sistine Chapel and many many more wonderful essential artistic experiences.

“Love Songs Human and Divine: Songs for the Spirit”

Presented by the University of South Carolina Concert Choir, of Columbia, South Carolina, USA. The choir under the direction of Dr. Larry Wyatt and accompanied by Dr. Williams Bates performed throughout Italy and the Vatican State from March 3 through March 14, 2011.

“Viva la Musica: Sacred choral music and jazz celebrating life, love, faith, and music”

was the theme for the first international performance tour by Bellarmine University Music Department, of Louisville, Kentucky, USA. The Schola Cantorum, in collaboration with the Louisville Vocal Project, presented concerts of sacred and secular masterpieces from the past and present, featuring music by Parsons, Byrd, Stanford, and Burchard. The Jazz Ensemble presented concert of well-known American jazz standards featuring the music of Ellington, Mancini, Rodgers, Hart, Young, and Garner. The choir is directed by Dr. S. Timothy Glasscock, and the Jazz ensemble is led by Mr. David Clark. Mr. Richard Burchard serves as the head of the Bellarmine University Music Department. The ensembles performed throughout Italy and the Vatican State from March 3 through 14, 2011.

“Songs of Hope, Peace, and Praise: from the master of the Italian motet to the master of the American spiritual”

Presented by the Mater Dei High School Chorus, of Santa Ana, California, USA. The 130-voice touring choir was the direction of Mr. Scott Melvin and accompanied by Mr. Kent Helwig. The MDHS Choir and Handbells performed throughout Italy and the Vatican State from March 25 through April 3, 2011 - a special highlight was singing for Pope Benedict VI. at St. Peter's Square.

“A Journey of Light: A concert of choral music that will awaken the sense, inspire the soul, and warm the heart”

Presented by the La Canada High School Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, of La

Canada, California, USA. The La Canada High School Concert Choir and Chamber Singers toured under the direction of Mr. Jeff Brookey. Their program featured works by American and European composers spanning five centuries, including Claudio Monteverdi, Franz Schubert, Maurice Durufle, Eric Whitacre, and Moses Hogan. The ensembles performed throughout Italy and the Vatican State from March 30 through April 7, 2011.

“I Saw Eternity: A spiritual pilgrimage through music of past and present”

Performed by the JSerra Catholic High School Chamber Choir, of San Juan Capistrano, California, USA. The JSerra Chamber Choir sang works by Bieble, Byrd, and Poulanc, under the direction of Mr. Andrew M. Alvarez.The Chamber Choir will perform throughout Italy and the Vatican State, April 1 through 11, 2011.

“Holy: Sacred music along the Danube”

Presented by the Youth Performing Arts School Touring Concert Choir, of Louisville, Kentucky, USA. The program featured traditional and contemporary choral literature by an eclectic mix of composers, including Palestrina, Byrd, Marenzio, Burchard, and Mozart. The choir was directed by Dr. S. Timothy Glasscock, Director of Vocal Studies, and accompanied by Mr. Timothy Lee Baker, Organist. The Choir traveled on a performance cruise on the Danube River through Central Europe from April 2 through April 11, 2011.

“Musica Divina - from the new to the old world ”

Presented by the San Marino Chamber Choir, from San Marino High School in Los Angeles, California, USA. The program featured selected works by Claudio Monteverdi, J.S. Bach, Henry Purcell, Hugo Wolf, Morten Lauridsen, Moses Hogan, and many others. The Chamber Choir toured under the direction of Mr. Howard Cheung and accompanied by Ms. Rachel Yang throughout Italy and the Vatican State from April 2 through April 12, 2011.

“La Storia: Sharing stories through song, from one land to another – a concert of choral and instrumental music”

Presented by the St. Bonaventure’s College Wind Ensemble and Chamber Choir, of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. The ensembles are conducted by Ms. Vincenza Etchegary, Instrumental Director, and Ms. Maria Conkey, Choral Director. The St. Bonaventure’s College Wind Ensemble and Chamber Choir also toured through Italy and the Vatican State from April 9 through April 17, 2011.

“¡Cantemos!”

Presented by the University of Miami Frost Chorale, of Miami, Florida, USA, featured choral masterworks paired with Spanish and American folk music. The Frost Chorale was under the direction of Dr. Josh Habermann for the tour to Spain from May 15 through 23, 2011.

“Passion and Faith: Sacred and secular music to touch the heart and feed the soul”

Presented by the Providence College Choir and Symphonic Winds, of Providence, Rhode Island, USA. The Choir under the direction of Dr. T.J. Harper and Symphonic Winds led by Dr. Jennifer Bill toured Italy and the Vatican State, from May 16 through 26, 2011.

“Songs from the heart to the heavens: Sacred and secular choral gems from the continental Europe, Great Britain, Africa, Australia, and the Americas”

Presented by the University of Georgia Chamber Choir, of Athens, Georgia, USA. The touring program ranged from works by Victoria and Brahms to jazz and spirituals. The touring choir was directed by Dr. Mitos Andaya and accompanied by Dr. Martha Thomas, the singers from Athens, Georgia traveled to Portugal and Spain from May 19 through 29, 2011.

“Gloria: A concert of sacred and secular choral music from the past and present”

Presented by the Fullerton College Concert Choir, of Fullerton, California, USA. The choir under the direction of Mr. John Tebay performed throughout Germany and Austria from July 2 through 14, 2011.

The "Bridge of the Soul Choir", of Tokyo, Japan, is on concert tour next week in Rome.

Under the direction of Maestro Akiyasu Fukushima, the 50+ singers, women from the greater Tokyo area between the ages 30 and 80, present a concert of sacred choral music for women’s voice and organ, featuring works from Italy (Palestrina, Monteverdi), Germany (Rheinberger, Bruckner), and Japan (Saburo Takata).

Prior to being the featured guest choir for High Mass at Basilica San Pietro in the Vatican (November 23 at 5:00PM) and a private concert in the Sistine Chapel (November 24), the ensemble’s only public highlight performance will take place at the Basilica de Santi Giovanni e Paolo al Celio on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 8:30 pm.

Standing ovations for the Junge Chor Speyer's first US concert in NYC

And what happened 2007?

In its premiere season, Incantato Concert Management was the proud organizer and presenter for the international performance tours of two outstanding choirs travelling to Europe in the summer of 2007:

The Summit Children's Touring Choir from Akron, Ohio

– directed by Arlene Jacobs: with performances in Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria

This outstanding youth choir with over 50 voices presented its "Rhythms of Life" concerts in Speyer (St. Joseph Kirche), Chemnitz (Markuskirche), Chlumec, Prague (St. Nicolas Church) and Vienna (Stephansdom & St. Anna Kirche).

The Choir of the Sound from Seattle, Washington

– directed by Judy Filibeck: with performances in Northern and Central Italy.

This excellent community choir with 40+ voices brought its "Melodie d'Estate"-Concerts to Lovere, Venice, Siena, Montecatini and Caldiero near Verona. A true highlight was the performance in St. Mark's Basilica where COTS was invited to sing during High Mass.
